Community Outreach Team

Our Mission is to support First Pres in the expression of their faith through ministry and service to those in need within our local community. This makes the First Pres mission a living reality by working with and supporting established groups and organizations who focus on the homeless, the working poor and the unemployed of SLO County. Outreach includes: homeless shelter overflow, People's Kitchen, Green Pastures, People's Self-help Housing and Children's Services. March Homeless Overflow

First Pres has a long history participating with our local homeless shelter. For the last 17 years, we have opened our church facilities to offer offer a warm bed to sleep in. and a safe and welcoming space to stay.


Habitat for Humanity

First Pres is a member of Apostle Build with a simple mission; to partner with other churches to finance and build homes for families in need.


Literacy Council

Tuesday and Thursday mornings we offer people of different native tongues an opportunity to improve English language skills


Peacemaking and Social Justice Team

In response to Christ's call to be peacemakers, and united with the people of God, we seek to promote an awareness of and foster a commitment t the healing of God's creation and to be advocates for the needy, the oppressed, and the forgotten in our community and in the world. The team meets 3rd Tuesday, monthly in Church library.


We do this through:
  • A Creation Care Team
  • An Alternative Gift Fair Team
  • A Mediation Team  

We participate in: 

  • Get on the BusĀ
  • Central Coast Clergy and Laity for Justice www.ccc4justice.org
  • Annual community hunger walk
  • Church school classes, forums and workshops on current social issues

 

People's Kitchen

Responding to the need to feed the hungry, volunteers cook and provide a nutritious lunch to the homeless and hungry of SLO County who come to the Prado Day Center at lunchtime. Meals are prepared, delivered and served on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. 

 

Green Pastures

Provides emergency resources and practical help to those in need in our community each Wednesday at the church from 1:00 to 3:45 p.m.
