Whenever aspiring journalists asked 60 Minutes creator Don Hewitt the secret of his success, he simply replied: “Tell me a story.” 

Our stories go to the heart of our identity: as individuals, families and churches. Our stories can also be a strong clue to God’s unfolding purposes in our lives.

Here’s a fact we all have to come to terms with:  There’s a certain amount of trouble in life, and we all get a share.  It’s not a matter of God singling us out; it’s a part of being human.  “In the world you will have trouble,” said Jesus.

As I approach the seventh year of pastoral leadership of FPCSLO, looking back, we have accomplished much together. Many if not most of the goals we set in 2005 have been achieved. We are a different congregation than we were then with a new staff and more than 175 new members in our ranks.

Jesus came to this world with a ministry of reconciliation. And he called his disciples to be agents of reconciliation. It’s hard work. That’s why Paul says “make every effort to keep the bond of unity,” because that is what it takes: “Every effort.” Reconciliation doesn’t happen by accident. It takes intentionality and purposeful hard work.

Christianity is all about the belief that the living God, in fulfillment to his promises and as the climax of the story of Israel, has accomplished all this- the finding, the saving, and the giving of new life- in Jesus.  Jesus has done it.  With Jesus, God’s rescue operation has been put into effect once and for all.

Exciting News from Front Porch!

On Sunday October 25, 2009, I was installed as Campus Pastor to Front Porch.  I can’t tell you what an honor it is to be serving this college ministry and this church. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity.From age seventeen God has had me on a path to ordination as a Minister of Word and Sacrament.
